TextTelevision to present Poem Flow at the O’Reilly Tools for Change Conference

Cambridge, MA, February 18, 2010 Text Television™, a New England new media company, will present Poem Flow™, an innovative reading application, at the O’Reilly Tools of Change for Publishing Conference (TOC) in New York on February 24, 2010.

Who:  Dennis Downey, Founder and President of TextTelevision.

What: Poem Flow features a powerful new way to read on a handheld screen.  The text of each poem is displayed in two different modes:  as an elegant, conventional scrollable  block (Portrait) and as a gently flowing reading movie (Landscape).  The two modes are side-by-side, in-synch, and toggled by the holding hand.  Moving from one to the other shows the reader how the text is meant to be read. TextTelevision recently launched Poem Flow for the iPhone and iTouch in partnership with the Academy of American Poets.  Poem Flow is available as a free download on the Apple App Store.

Where: The O’Reilly Tools of Change for Publishing Conference, held February 22-24, 2010 in New York City, annually highlights the dynamic possibilities for publishers embracing the digital future. At the heart of the world’s publishing capital, TOC showcases the tools, the business models, and the knowledge that publishers need to succeed in a today’s rapidly changing landscape. TOC is the premier conference for deciphering trends and technologies that can keep the industry profitable and more connected to readers.

When: Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Press interested in speaking with Dennis at the conference should contact: Laura Often at laura@texflows.com or 508-887-3796.

Poem Flow is LIVE on the Apple app store!!!

Poem Flow Launches on Apple App Store

TextTelevision and the Academy of American Poets release an animated Poem-of-the-Day Application specially designed for the iPhone Platform. Poem Flow is available as a free download on the Apple Application Store.

Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) February 16, 2010 — TextTelevision,™ a New England new media company, and the Academy of American Poets, a New York-based nonprofit, have launched Poem Flow,™ an animated poem-of-the-day reading application for the iPhone and iTouch. Poem Flow is available as a free download on the Apple App Store.

Poem Flow features a new way to experience poetry on a handheld screen. The text of each poem is presented in two different modes: as an elegant, conventional, scrollable block (Portrait) and as a gently flowing reading movie (Landscape). The two modes are side-by-side, in-synch, and toggled by the holding hand.

A Flow is an entirely new way to read on a screen. Instead of standing still, the text animates phrase-by-phrase and thought-by-thought in a mimic of the reading process. The effect is calm, calming, and immersive. A Flow does some of the work of reading for the reader while enhancing focus, comprehension, and enjoyment. When toggled with the conventional display, a Flow reveals how a poem is meant to be read. Poem Flow can be used to teach poetry, while providing a unique and delightful engagement for anyone.

Poem Flow puts a poem-of-the-day in the palm of your hand. Each day a new poem flows to thousands of screens around the world. Everyone gets the same poem on the same day creating instant, invisible communities of simultaneous readers. The app uses geolocation to display where and when a poem was last read: most often, just minutes ago.

Any poem on Poem Flow can be shared with anyone, with or without an Apple device. Poemflow.com provides a free online display of any poem in Poem Flow, including the poem-of-the-day. Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms are built-in and poems can be shared with a push of a button.

Poem Flow builds a book of poems on your device. Previous poem-of-the-day poems persist within the app and can be read and shared at any time. Poems are drawn from a thoughtful mix of the greatest poems in English and include Shakespeare, Milton, Chaucer, Keats, Whitman, Dickinson, Yeats, Eliot, Frost and many others. The free download includes 20 classic poems that every poetry lover will cherish.

Pricing & Availability: Poem Flow is a free download and includes 20 classic poems. Additional poems can be purchased for less than a penny-a-poem: 100 poems for $.99 and a full year of poems (365) for $2.99.

Happy Valentines Day Everyone!

Our first post!  A joyous event :)

We’re here to write about… well… writing, reading and how the landscape as a whole is changing dramatically from print to screen.  We’ve developed a software program that we think is pretty cool, and hope you do too.  It’s called TextFlows.  A TextFlow is a reading movie.  The program automagically breaks down a piece of written work into natural divisions in the native language (English only right now) and presents them as a flowing animation.  Check it out! Our goal is to be an instrumental player in this changing landscape, and to make reading and writing more creative, effective and fun!

In collaboration with the Academy of American Poets, TextTelevision brings you a unique and FREE way to send your loved one a special message for Valentines day.  It’s your opportunity to get a sneak peak at what’s to come and how TextFlows will become a valuable addition to your creative writing arsenal.  This Valentines day, send some love with a Poem Flow!  If you do, you might win yourself a dozen red roses, just in time for the big day.

Stay tuned world.  We’re soon to make a splash.
